My Analysis Of This TextThis text was very interesting in it seemed as you were reading it to be a very wild and crazy story about a bunch of boys stranded on an island. At first i had a hard time actually analyzing what the point of this book was and how it could have possibly been of AP Literature merit. the book read as a normal novel because of the constant bantering back and fourth between the boys on the island. these boys were stranded here with no idea of how to care for themselves and survive peace fully. the boys on the island were not of an age to live on there owns or do things for themselves, they had no life experience and no street smarts, all they had to survive on was there human instinct. in the very beginning they tried to set a a government of sorts with the cone being the center. they tried to elect a chief and create rules but in the end they did not follow the rules or listen to the supposed government they had set up. from the very beginning of the it was obvious that in the long run things were not going to work out for these boys, there was not going to be one of those fairy tale endings where they all return home and live happy ever after.
the boys each had there own ideas about how to survive. to start off we will look a t Ralph who was the main character. he believed that they were not going to be on the island for all that long and only had to survive until they could signal a passing ship or plane to let them know that they were there. hes who ideas were based on not setting up a permanent society and preparing to stay on the island but actively working to get of the island, he only wanted to do what was necessary for the boys to survive while signaling for rescue. on the other hand another important character named Piggy wants to set up more permanent shelters and come up with ways for the boys to survive with enough food on the island in case that they are not able to be saved. Piggy is ready to set up a community and begin to create a sustainable environment for the boys to wait in because he does not think that rescue will come very fast. Another character in the book is Jack. Jack is one of the boys who does not see things quite as clearly. his main ideas are to spill blood. Jack is feisty and wants to kill of the boys in order to give himself a better chance of living. death slaughter and killing is jacks main point of view. as you can see by these very different points of views all the boys on the island had very different opinions and conflict was everywhere. |
